Chicken breasts seasoned with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper get baked and doused with a spicy honey, mustard, and vinegar based sauce. Let’s spice up your weeknight meal rotation!

It’s Cold Outside but Baby, This Chicken is Hot!

I was considering what a cold season picnic by the lake would look like and, aside from freezing my behind off, I concluded that you would have to eat spicy foods—maybe even sneak some Kahlua into your thermoses of hot chocolate.

Now, I ate this chicken with collard greens, coleslaw, and candied yams BUT—with the leftover—I think it would make an amazing chicken salad sandwiches for a cold weather picnic. It’s spicy enough to take the chill off your bones but sweet enough you wouldn’t be spending your meal inhaling and exhaling like a cartoon choo-choo train.

What Should You Serve With Sweet Deviled Baked Chicken?

How To Make Sweet Deviled Baked Chicken

Step one—Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Step Two—Rub chicken breasts in olive oil and season both sides with onion powder, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, and salt and pepper.

Step Three—Place chicken in the oven and decrease the oven temperature to 375 degrees; Bake for 40 minutes.

Step Four—In a small saucepan, combine the ketchup, honey, apple cider vinegar, hot sauce, and deli style mustard; simmer over low heat for five minutes.

Step Five—Dissolve cornstarch in water, stir into sauce, bring to a boil, and stir until thickened; remove from heat and set aside.

Step Six—Brush sauce onto chicken and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 cup deli style mustard whole grain
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce use your favorite brand
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water

Instructions
